The complementary medicine is one that complements the use of the conventional medicine, and promotes the health and well being of the patient’s body. Unlike the alternative medicine, complementary medicines are aimed at promoting or enhancing the effect of the conventional medicine, by making the patients body more stable and more normal. The complementary medicines include therapies like acupuncture (seen both as alternative and complementary, but on the whole a therapy to make the body better), aromatherapy (inhaling of scents from medicinal plants and oils)

Definition?
The Oxford dictionary defines the type of medicine as one that is out of the scope of scientific explanation, and that which can be used alongside the conventional medicine to better effect. Many traditional medicinal practices of the early Americans, Chinese can be seen as complementary medicine. What these practices did was to make the body better, and this is one which can be done under any circumstances, and anyway it is getting better, reacting to the conventional medicine in a better way! In fact the acupuncture and some other Chinese practices that we follow as complementary medicine styles are taken as conventional medicines in the native countries, so it is more of the way we take it, rather than to go with a definition for it!

Some Complementary medicines
1. Yoga: Yoga is more seen as an art of bringing your body and mind under control and thereby synchronizing the activities of it. This can be an effective complementary practice, for what it actually does is betterment of body, which is good for anyone and everyone.
2. Music therapy: Music therapy is one that makes us feel the music and listen to it with such intent that the flow of the energy and bodily comfort is streamlined.
3. Massage therapy: Massage therapy is used more often by us to relax ourselves from excessive stress. This is good for the mind too relaxes.

There are many more such practices and they are effective in their own way. The main think to be noted is that they are in essence the body activators and energizers which help us react normally and naturally, which makes them good compliments to any medication we are under.
Practicing it to your benefit

The complementary medicines and therapies are those which can be used effectively as complements. The more aware we are to the situation and disorder, the more we need to act upon it. The complementary medicines are just our aides that we can use to our advantage. The one other thing about such practices is that they are not only effective as complements during medication but also can be practiced by us during normal health, to make ourselves stronger and have our body more balanced. This way we can ensure that we are stronger, prevent disorders rather than curing it! The proof is not there but the result is of course well etched in our experiences. We can convert these very effective complements to compliments if we practice smart!
